I'm currently at a birthday dinner for a mutual friend of mine and the ex-girlfriend. I'm surrounded by people I don't know, and I don't know if its for real this time, but for the first time in my entire life, I feel uncomfortable. This restaurant is amazing, possibly one of the coolest places ever. And I'm awaiting the arrival of my food. But there's this feeling...growing...
I came into this night fine, but ever since the ex introduced me as "my good friend," I've had this unsettling feeling growing deep in my stomach.
I never realized the extent of what "falling out" feels like after a break up, but if this is it, I'm sorry for anyone who has ever felt like this.
Maybe they were telling the truth in "When Harry Met Sally," and that men and women really can't be friends. I thought I was okay with staying here after the break up. I thought I was comfortable with everything. I think I am. Her family still loves me. The friends are still cool. Work is amazing.
But when I said I didn't want awkwardness, maybe I was hoping on a fool's wish. Maybe its time to cut my losses, and go home...maybe I should stay. One thing I know is I'm at the age where meeting friends without a wingman to be there for support, just isn't acceptible. Maybe I'm over-analyzing. Maybe this is nothing. A sign would be nice.
